An opener that hums, clicks, runs without moving the door, or works only when it feels like it is one of the most common calls we take. Sometimes it is a $30 gear. Sometimes it is a logic board. And fairly often it is not the opener at all but a door that has become too heavy because a spring failed, which is why we always test the door balance before we blame the motor.
We repair and replace LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman, Linear and Overhead Door openers. When a replacement makes more sense, we install belt-drive, chain-drive, direct-drive and wall-mount units, most with built-in Wi-Fi, battery backup and a camera option.
Sound familiar?
Opener hums but nothing moves
Stripped main drive gear (very common on older Chamberlain and LiftMaster units) or a seized motor.
Remote works sometimes
Weak remote battery, worn logic board, or radio interference from a new LED bulb.
Door reverses right away
Force setting too low, travel limits drifted, or a binding door.
Grinding, chain slapping
Loose chain, worn sprocket or a trolley that is coming apart.
Light blinks, door won't close
Safety sensor misaligned, dirty, or the wire was nicked.
Opener is more than 15 years old
No rolling-code security, no battery backup, parts getting scarce. Replacement is usually the wise move.
